Strengthening Friendships over Chili and Hot Buttered Rum

SSNA Secretary, LWSC Commodore, SSNA Treasurer, SSNA President

Sunday January 19th brought forth a very cold day for Lake Worth Sailing Club's Frostbite 2025 regatta and chili cook-off.  Conditions were bitter enough that the races did not commence, but the chili competition drew a large crowd of attendees and competitors none the less.

Commodore Julia asked our neighborhood board to be the impartial judges for the chili cook-off, and we gladly accepted.  President Deanne, Treasurer Tom and Secretary Adrienne were all able to judge and were joined by one of the club's own members for a team of four (we missed having VP Brian join).

Despite the frigid temps outside and the club building having no automatic climate control, we were all made cozy by a roaring fire, lots of warm, friendly members bustling around, and hot buttered rum.

Thirteen chilis were tasted and rated by the judges for appearance, aroma, texture, thickness, taste, and overall impression.  This was no easy job!  But with a seasoned chili judge and a couple of chili enthusiasts among us we delivered definitive judgements for the first, second and third place winners.
