Boat Parade, Neighborhood Party and Dock Decorating Contest!

When: December 14, 2024, beginning 4:30 pm

Where: Lake Worth Sailing Club is on Sunrise Point Circle, Parade watching is on Sunset Circle, both locations are off of Peninsula Club Circle.

What's Happening?

We have a fun December neighborhood social planned! The Lake Worth Sailing Club and Scenic Shores Neighborhood Association are excited to partner together in the sail club's annual lighted boat parade!  Our night will consist of two social locations and two decorating competitions.  Participate in it all!

Dock Decorating Competition

Decorate and light up your dock to dazzle the judges!  Who's judging the docks?  The participants in the boat parade will be!  As they pass by all of our docks each boat will be evaluating the decorated docks and will determine the winners.  The winners will be announced the following day, by our online platforms.  Note: the boat parade cannot visit Love Circle due to dangerous and shallow lake conditions on that side of the lake.  

Boat Decorating Competition

4:30 pm Meet and Greet at Sailing Club

The sailing club has invited us neighbors to their club so we can meet and mingle before they climb aboard their boats for the parade.  Feel free to bring a snack to share.

5:30 pm Neighborhood Boat Parade Watching Party

The Matheus family has kindly opened their dock on Sunset Point Circle (4017 Peninsula Club Circle) for all of us neighbors to gather, mingle and watch the boat parade as it passes by. Bring your favorite drinks for yourself, a snack to share, and your holiday spirit!

From neighbor Dave Bodden: The existing boat dock ordinance is a complex and confusing document that does not serve the lake residents well.  The biggest problem with this ordinance is the way that land property lines are extended onto the water to be used as boundaries in determining where your dock can be placed and if you meet offset requirements from the boundary lines.  This would be fine if your property lines were perpendicular to the shore line but for most lots they are not.  The unique lot shapes around the lake and especially in coves where lots are arranged in a semi-circle make the existing dock ordinance very unfair for some lake owners, to the point that it would be difficult to build a boat dock.  In some cases it would be perfectly fine using the existing dock ordinance for some owners to build a dock in front of their neighbors house.   UPDATE Email recieved Dec 16, 2025 from Phelisha Bollin - COFW Transportation Customer Solutions Analyst I have received an update from our Engineering team concerning your traffic safety concerns and requests regarding Watercress Dr. While the roadway does not comply with TMUTCD guidelines (a travel way of 20 feet or more in width and an ADT of 4,000 vehicles per day or greater) for centerline implementation, our Engineering team analyzed traffic count data for both eastbound and westbound Watercress Dr in relation to your request for an exception. The daily volume is very low (667 vehicles /day). The findings also revealed that this location does not present significant speeding issues. The recorded 85th percentile speed on Watercress Dr was 33 mph eastbound and 29 mph westbound. The posted speed limit is 30 mph. Discussion: Lake Closure Changes

  From neighbor Dave Bodden: I have always heard that the Lake needs to be closed when it reaches a mean sea level of 595.5 because of boat wakes that negatively affect some houses on the lake.  I have never understood how we stop the wind from creating waves when the lake is closed and causing the same effect as boat wakes.  So again, I don't understand the rational.  But, that rational certainly doesn't apply to kayaks, canoes, and unpowered fishing boats (which includes those powered by a trolling motor).  These watercraft do not cause wakes. I would like our Association to support changing policies that eliminate any restrictions on kayaks, canoes, and unpowered boats other than trolling motor powered boats when the lake is closed.  The lake closure policy should just state that using a gas powered or electric powered boat is not allowed during lake closures with the exception of trolling motor powered boats.
