Preparatory Meeting for Incoming Board Members: Occurred December 17, 2024

The incoming executive board met at soon to be President Deanne's house the evening of Tuesday December 17th.  Below are the topics which were discussed.

Attendance:
President-Elect, Deanne Kearney
Vice President-Elect, Brian Keller
Treasurer-Elect, Tom Mast
Secretary-Elect, Adrienne Taylor

No New Private Facebook Group

The incoming board has chosen at this time to not establish a new private Facebook group for the entire neighborhood.  If sections of the neighborhood would like to establish their own group chats, that is welcomed and can be established and maintained by any volunteers.  Some areas already have private chats established, so ask around.

A New Public Facebook Page

The new official Facebook page can be found at "Scenic Shores Neighborhood Association of Lake Worth".  The incoming board members will echo to this page what will have been published to the blog.  Neighbors are welcome and encouraged to comment on the posts for neighborly and inquisitive interactions.

Old Facebook Group has No Incoming Board Members

The outgoing president continues to be the sole owner and operator of the long-standing Facebook group that had been the main source of association communication.  Last month he changed the name in an attempt to make it an unofficial group about the area, however he also removed all incoming board members along with many highly involved neighbors.  Thus, please be advised that the group named "Scenic Shores Neighborhood Conversation" is no longer a source of official neighborhood information, and confusion may occur for those who remain in it.

Neighborhood Outreach

Deanne will be reaching out to the presidents of the other neighborhood associations on the lake in order to establish good rapport and fraternity going forward.  There is an interest in re-attempting to form an alliance of all the neighborhood associations along the lake.  An initiative began two years ago to form an alliance but it did not come together at the time.

Also, the incoming board has already reestablished a friendly relationship with the Lake Worth Sailing Club, which resides within our boundaries.  Our Christmas social in conjunction with the club last week was a joyful success. Ideas for future joint events are continuing.

Expanding from One to Two Neighborhood Meetings Each Year

Our first neighborhood meeting will be held in late March.  At this first meeting those in attendance will vote on the passage of the newly edited bylaws (which will be made available for review in advance of the meeting).  Also, we will be visited by Councilwoman Macy Hill for a friendly talk about the city and community.  Once we have her scheduled then we will look for an indoor space to host the meeting.

Our second meeting will be held the first weekend in October.  If there is any formal business to tend to this will be our next opportunity.  It will otherwise be a neighborhood potluck, which has been a widely requested event.

Cowtown Clean Up in March

The city of Fort Worth hosts and provides supplies and support for a city wide clean up every spring in an event called the Cowtown Clean Up.  Several neighbors have expressed an interest in participating in an outdoor clean up, especially of Goat Island (a favorite party location).  This will be our opportunity get together and do great work around our beloved lake using the support of the city.

Association Dues and Donations

Our association does not collect any dues.  However, several neighbors have expressed interest in providing donations to support any efforts for enhancing our community physically or socially going forward, like renting indoor spaces for meetings and socials, or for providing materials for neighborhood clean ups through out the year. Come January our Treasurer will establish a bank account for the neighborhood in order to best safeguard donations.

Bylaw Edits

Much time was spent by the incoming board deliberating on bylaws updates to allow for better clarity on how our association should function.  Between the four board members multiple and opposing view points were shared for each of the topics.  Once we have a good document and choices narrowed down we will be posting it for all the neighbors to review, discuss and contribute about prior to voting in March.  We aim to have it ready for review by mid January.

First Offical Executive Board Meeting

The first official executive board meeting will be held in February sometime, date and location to be determined.
